With Transit Custom you get a series of available smart, driver assist features. For example, Intelligent Speed Assist uses the traffic Sign Recognition camera to first detect the current speed limit (when activated). The system then adjusts your maximum speed setting to keep you inside that limit. Cross Traffic Alert warns you if it detects oncoming traffic when you’re reversing out of a space and may have limited visibility. And a Blind Spot Information System warns you if it detects vehicles hidden in your blind spot. Adaptive Cruise Control,is there to make driving less stressful. Set your desired speed and Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front. If the sensors detect traffic slowing ahead, your vehicle automatically slows down. When traffic has cleared, your vehicle accelerates back to the pre-selected speed.
Ford SYNC 3 is an advanced system that enables you to stay connected and control your phone, music and navigation system with natural voice commands. You can also use an 8” colour touchscreen with pinch-and-swipe gestures for even more intuitive navigation. The technology connects to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too, and with Applink, you can access some of your favourite smartphone apps. Live Traffic can also help you avoid the jams. And you can even call up a list of local restaurants just by saying “I’m hungry”.
The Transit Custom’s loadspace is excellent: load length, width (from wheel arch to wheel arch) and usable interior height. It can easily carry standard 8’ x 4’ boards flat on the floor, three euro pallets and, thanks to its unique load-through storage area, items up to 3.4m long (L2). Overall, the van provides six cubic metres of loadspace with a bulkhead fitted, and that’s just the short wheelbase (L1) version: the long wheelbase (L2) offers 6.8 cubic metres. Transit Custom also has the widest side load door opening of any vehicle of its type and the sliding doors have a new checking mechanism which holds them securely open for loading.
